The third time is definitely a charm.  After being asked three times over a two year period, Curt finally agreed to go out with Liz at the end of their freshman year in high school.  They dated throughout high school, but went their separate ways for college.  However they always remained friends and began dating again after college.  After Liz moved to Los Angeles to go to law school, they drifted apart.  But as they say, the third time is a charm… they reconnected during Liz’s second year at law school and have been happily together ever since.
